The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) was awarded a three-year grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services – Health Resources Services Administration to implement the M-SEARCH program. The MDCH is the parent organization for the M-SEARCH program, and is responsible for its implementation and management.
The department was created in 1996 by consolidating the Department of Public Health, the Department of Mental Health and the Medical Services Administration, the state's Medicaid agency. The Office of Drug Control Policy and the Office of Services to the Aging were later consolidated with MDCH.
The mission of the MDCH is to “protect, preserve, and promote the health and safety of the people of Michigan with particular attention to providing for the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations.”
